I joined DeviantART on Nov 6, 2004. Which means I've been here for almost a decade now
I'll start by featuring my very first deviation, which is kinda embarrassing, but here goes:
I taught my self to draw by copying art from Disney movies and comics, and this was one of my first attempts at original fanart. I remember I felt pretty good about it back then
After a few years I was inspired to design my own characters just like I'd seen so many other deviants do. And in 2007 one of them got a DD. That was a pretty awesome feeling
This gave me a great motivation boost and I suddenly had a much bigger audience to share my art with than back when I first joined. It's a bit more encouraging to reach people all over the world rather than just your mom's fridge (no matter how awesome that was, though
) I had also started to develop my own unique style which I've been refining ever since.
It was great being a part of an art community, especially since I didn't know anyone in real life who loved to draw as much as I did. One of the many cool things about this community is all the contests you can take part in. Once I scored 3rd place in one hosted by reiq
Back in 2008 I even started to get some deviations on the front page! Here's one of them:
And thanks to all the amazing and inspiring artist on DA I started challenging myself from time to time. Pushing myself (and my patience) to get better.
Late in 2010 I could finally afford my first set of Copic sketch markers. Even though I loved my prismacolor pencils I've never been able to go back. That's how awesome Copics are
And my first deviation using markers also reached the front page!
Because my mom suffered from cancer twice within the next 3 years and passed away on Sep 11, 2013, I didn't draw much, but one of the few drawings I did make got me my second DD. It was a really good feeling among all the bad ones.
And now that I'm working to get back on my feet, DeviantART is still here for me
And that's my story, so far AMOR FATI
